Maps, Graphs & Charts Concepts book for the UIL or PSIA contest focuses on getting the student to take the time to fully "see" the all the information presented in a visual format before tackling questions. As our brain matures, it is easy to assess information from multiple directions at one time. For youngers, seeing the full picture as well as the details not always come so easy. Seeing a new map or chart for the first time can be overwhelming. This book helps students learn to assess (1) what they are looking at, and (2) what they are looking for, when they encounter a map, graph or chart. Important contest tips and sample practice questions are included in each chapter.
Maps, Graphs, and Charts Concepts book breaks down the steps to interpreting and extracting data from the Nystrom Desk Atlas and other (Hexco designed) maps and graphs. Questions are presented at the end of each chapter and students may write their answers on the worksheets in the book. An excellent take-home study guide and a valuable time-saving resource for coaches -- ideal for student assignments and/or classroom discussion. Terminology related to reading maps graphs and charts is explained and questions and exercises are presented on a per chapter basis. (Note: The coach may wish to remove the answer keys before giving the books to students if students are being tested on the material.)
