UIL sponsors five Journalism contests – Editorial Writing, Feature Writing, Headline Writing, News Writing and Copy Editing. Each of these contests help budding high school communications students understand the nuances of journalistic writing. These events have become increasingly popular, and many contest winners have become professional journalists.
Students compete at the District level, and the top three competitors advance to Regionals. The top three at Regionals then advance to the State competition.
