Former UIL academic director Bobby Hawthorne shares his invaluable experience and advice on how to perform your best in these UIL Journalism events.

  • This four-video series was designed to serve as a time-saver for coaches and provides a crash course for students participating in these contests.
  • Each video covers the basics of one of the four events and allows students to learn quickly in the comfort of the classroom or even at home!
  • Downloadable sample prompts and/or PowerPoints accompany most videos.
  • Each subscription allows access to all four videos for one academic year, expiring on June 1st. The videos can be accessed from any browser.

Video subscriptions are activated M-F between 9 a.m.-3 p.m. CST by our order processing department. To access this product after making your purchase, login here. If you have any questions, please email orders@hexco.com.

ADDITIONAL INSTRUCTIONS

  • We recommend that students first review the sample prompt (for News, Features and Editorials) and then listen to the video. If time allows, watch the PowerPoint presentation. It fleshes out many of the points made in the video.
  • When you encounter a slide, you might want to pause the video and take a moment to read the information. Each slide is displayed for 7 seconds, but some students may need additional time to read or take notes.
