With the changes by Scripps to abbreviated classroom study lists, Hexco Academic and the Spelling Sisters have skillfully expanded all annual study materials to include grade-appropriate study lists plus all 'Spell It!' words, 'Words you Need to Know', the "hidden" words embedded in 'Spell-It!' rules and activities, and more.  Our annual list has 2,500 words so that the student who studies the hardest and knows the most words will rise to the top - rather than leaving the outcome to 'luck of the draw' by using words in your bees that students may not have had the opportunity to study or even see.

The Scripps' classroom study list provides 25 to 50 words per grade with overlap at every level.  We felt this number was to low, so we sent our Word Wizards to mine our databases for more words.  Our study list offers words in difficulty sequence with 270 words for students in 1st thru 3rd grades and 270 words for 4th thru 6th grade students.  For 7th and 8th grade students, the study list has been expanded to 205 words plus an additional collection of 260+ difficult words for students ready for more advanced words.  These grade-specific lists, plus the 'Spell It!' lists add up to 2,500+ words, which give students a fairly strong spelling foundation and vocabulary to go along with it.  Producing strategically designed and age-appropriate spelling bee lists for over a quarter century, we feel excited and confident about the new spelling lists for 2012!
